Charter Cruising Area Tahiti

Your sailing area encompasses Raiatea, Bora Bora, Tahaa and Huahine, lying just four or five hours apart. You'll find perfect visibility in lagoons surrounded by colourful coral reefs, tropical fish and empty white sand shores around ancient submerged volcanoes.

Yachting navigation in the Leeward Islands is not difficult, as the distances are short between the islands.  Passes to enter the lagoons are well marked, as well as in the lagoons. You will find nice anchorages in turquoise waters by the reef or more protected anchorages in the deep bays for your yacht.

The Leeward Islands have many activities to offer such as:

  • scuba diving
  • snorkelling
  • tours of the islands in 4-wheel drives
  • deep sea fishing
  • visits to vanilla plantations
  • black pearl farms to visit
  • maraes (holy places)
  • horseback riding & trekking

You will need around 10-14 days to visit Raiatea, Huahine, Tahaa & Bora Bora.

For longer cruises and more experienced sailors there are possibilities to sail to the windward Islands of Tahiti & Moorea or to the Tuamotu Archipelago about 250 miles away.

These are great trips, slightly more challenging but well worth the effort.  The chance to escape to truly desolate open water is enough to inspire many Sunsail charter guests to venture to these outer islands.

Mooring Permits

All moorings in the area belong either to restaurants, charter companies or similar and are usually for their clients.

As a client you may use them free of charge otherwise call the owner to ask for permission.

In most places you will be able to anchor your Sunsail yacht.
